Meet the experts

Dr Aaisha Saqib is currently working in Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust in the department of diabetes and endocrine as a consultant. She worked as RCP Chief Registrar in Medway Hospital in Kent from 2019-2020. 

After finishing my Foundation Program from South Thames foundation school and Core Medical training in 2016, I completed the higher specialist training from South London Deanery in 2022. I worked as RCP Chief Registrar in Medway Hospital in Kent from 2019-2020 and was invited to deliver the RCP Lilly Leadership lecture in 2021 for the work I undertook.

I was also a committee member for the national Young Diabetologist and Endocrinologist Forum (YDEF) and a trainee representative for South London Diabetes Endocrine trainees. I pioneered the ABCD Diabetes Update course as member of YDEF. I'm passionate about quality improvement in healthcare settings and medical education. As a consultant I have been supervising trainees to undertake QIPs. I have also published some of my projects in British journals.

Dr Shailesh Gohil is a Consultant Endocrinologist, Honorary Research Follow and Co-Training Programme Director for Endocrinology and Diabetes - East Midlands.

My interest in endocrinology arose during core medical training (now known as IMT). I proactively took steps to build on this interest, so much so that I decided to pursue Endocrinology and Diabetes as a career and entered the training programme. During training, I took advantage of various opportunities and was lucky to be able to present 20 posters at national and international conferences; give talks at regional, national and international meetings; win prizes; and was able to publish articles in journals. In addition, I wanted to do something a bit different so took time out of training for research in Neuroendocrine Tumours. Now, as a consultant, I am still invested in teaching and training and am co-Training Programme Director for Endocrinology and Diabetes training in the East Midlands, alongside my other roles.
